Did you know?
A
congruent reaction is an isothermal reversible reaction in which both of the phases concerned have the same composition throughout the process. In the Ni-Ti system, two congruent reactions occur: L ? TiNi
3 at 1380 °C and 25 at.% Ti, and L ? TiNi ht at 1310 °C and 50 at.% Ti. Other examples of congruent transformations include allotropic transformations and melting of pure metals. An incongruent reaction is one in which at least one of the phases experiences a change in composition, such as the eutectic reaction L ? TiNi
3 + TiNi ht at 1118 °C and 39 at.% Ti.
