Education

Raise Money for Your Chapter While Helping Your Members Improve Performance

ASM offers its Chapters a 40% discount off the non-member or "list" price of self-study materials. Take advantage of this useful means of raising money while helping your members improve performance and keep up with the latest technological advances. When holding educational programs, chapters keep 100% of the profits, minus the cost of the materials. Many chapters around the country take advantage of this special offer with great success like Peoria, Milwaukee, Leigh Valley, and Houston.

ASM Emerging Professionals Program - Life in the Fast Lane of MS&T 2007

For the first time, the MS&T community was exposed to the hard work of our ASM Emerging Professionals Program who identified the need for demographic tailored programming. This developmental/ observational program for early career professionals was introduced to our ASM family in Cincinnati last year. In 2007, the professional volunteer members of the Emerging Professionals Program developed, implemented and executed an amazing “Life in the Fast Lane: Building Skills to Thrive in the Materials & Global Community” session with ASM President Dr. Dianne Chong as keynote speaker. This session also featured a panel discussion by Dr. Ellen Cerreta, Los Alamos National Lab, Mr. John R. Keough, P.E., FASM, Chief Executive Officer, Applied Process Incorporated, and Mr. Christopher L. LaPole, Application Metallurgical Engineer, The Timken Company.

Please join us in welcoming this year’s members of the Emerging Professionals Program:

Returning Members:

Patrick Anderson – The Timken Company – Canton-Massillon Chapter
Tiffany Biles – Alcoa – Cleveland Chapter
Margaret Bush – Engle Metallurgical – Minnesota Chapter
Leonard Grant – Eastman Kodak – Boston Chapter
Emily Kinser – IBM – Metro NY-NJ Chapter
Matthew Perricone – RJ Lee Group – Pittsburgh Chapter

Alyssa Yarbrough – Boston Scientific – Minnesota Chapter

Back Row L to Rt. – Nathan Ashmore, Matthew Perricone, ASM Immediate Past President, Dr. Larry Wagner, ASM Managing Director, Mr. Stan Theobald, Leonard Grant, Jaret Frafjord, Dustin Turnquist; Front Row L to Rt. – Elizabeth Hoffman, Patrick Anderson, Juan Villegas, Margaret Bush, Emily Kinser, Alyssa Yarbrough, Liam Pingree; Not Pictured – Tiffany Biles, Ryan Deacon, Charles Young

The function of the Emerging Professionals Program is to allow a younger demographic, the future of ASM, to see, understand and be involved with the inner workings of an internationally recognized professional society. The program allows ASM to seamlessly transition from one generation to the next. Involvement goes beyond the local chapter level when Emerging Professionals interact with ASM at the national level, organizing and executing events at the ASM Annual Meeting held at MS&T, guiding the direction of ASM by attending various committee meetings, as well as interacting with and learning from a diverse group of professionals who are acknowledged leaders within ASM International and as acknowledged mentors in their fields.

Stay tuned for more information, updates and incite into the initiatives of the Emerging Professionals Program including efforts related to the new ASM Strategic Planning and programming at MS&T 2008 in Pittsburgh.

For more information regarding the Emerging Professionals Program, please contact
Patrick Anderson, Chair, or Candace Cunningham,
Staff Liaison.

Recent Changes to Officer’s Tools
on ASM Website

There have been a few changes and upgrades to the Officer’s Tools function with the installation of the new ASM Community:

1. All Officer’s Tool are now available in Membership/Networking, under Councils/Committees

2. Choose your Login as soon as you bring up the website. Within your member profile you will see a portal called My Community and within this you will see My Councils/Committees. Under My Councils/Committees you will see your chapter name and tools – this will bring you to the appropriate page with your access information.

3. Chapter rosters, e=mail and mailing labels are now available under Committee Tools or Officers Tools.

4. The Chapter Operations Manual can be found under Membership/Networking, Chapters, Professional Chapters, Manage Your Chapter.

5. The Membership Development Kit is now available under Membership/Networking, Chapters, Professional Chapters, Grow Your Membership.

6. The Chapter Council District Representative Contact page can be found Membership/Networking, Chapters, Professional Chapters, Manage Your Chapter, Chapter Council Reps.

7. The Downloadable Roster, E-mail Blast and Mailing Label functions have all been rolled into one tab on the left navigation – Roster, E-mail & Labels.

8. With the integration of new functionality, the Downloadable Chapter Roster information is now pulled directly from our membership database. Any previous roster and database inconsistency issues have been resolved.

9. For clarity, you will begin to see a new member type on the Downloadable Roster – SUSREP. This member type identifies Sustaining Representatives to chapter leaders.

10. The column title of Column V on the roster has been changed from “NO_MAIL” to “OK_TO_MAIL.” A “YES” in that column it means it’s okay to send correspondence to that member. A “NO” indicates a request to not receive mail from their local chapter. Please do not include ”NO_MAIL” members in your mailings or emails.
