CHAPTER TRUSTEE VISITS PROCEEDING
Board Members Visit Chapters - Still Time to Schedule Visits for 2005-2006 Year

Each year, Chapters request trustees to visit their area and participate in a local meeting. A Trustee Visit is an ideal way to reconnect your Chapter membership with what is happening throughout ASM International. The society leadership will update your Chapter with changes and advances, from the Society Strategic Plan to the ongoing development of Foundation Materials Camps. The Trustees share their passion, desire and technical expertise in leadership, and can be instrumental in encouraging and inspiring your chapter membership to higher levels of performance.

This year, several Trustee visits have taken place or are scheduled including:

September: Dr. Lisy-Metro NY-NJ; Mr. Kennedy-Ottawa Valley; Mr. Boyer-Birmingham

October: Dr. Chong-Boston

November: Dr. Frazier-Pittsburgh Golden Triangle; Dr. Abbaschian- Quad Chapters - Los Angeles, Orange Coast, San Fernando Valley and South Bay; Dr. Schmidt-West Michigan

January: Mr. Kennedy-Milwaukee; Dr. Chong-Carolina Southern Piedmont; Ms. Baik-Kromalic - Canton-Massillon

February: Dr. Frazier-South Central Pennsylvania; Dr. Frazier-Lehigh Valley; Dr. Abbaschian-Detroit; Dr. Schmidt-Northeast Iowa; Dr. Schmidt-Hartford

March: Dr. Wagner-Puget Sound; Ms. Baik-Kromalic- Calumet

April: Dr. Abbaschian-Ontario; Dr. Schmidt-Atlanta; Mr. Kennedy-Worcester

Click here to schedule a Chapter Trustee Visit or contact Candace Cunningham, Chapter Relations and Membership Administrator at (440) 338-5151 ext. 5651 or via email;Candace.cunningham@asminternational.org.

From the above link, you can utilize the online tools as outlined. Biographies of each Board Member are available by visiting www.asminternational.org.

*IMPORTANT TRUSTEE VISIT TIPS*
Be sure to schedule an Executive Committee Meeting with the visiting Trustee so chapter issues can be discussed in detail. Also, invite local student members and student chapters to join and participate. Chapter Trustee Visits are a great opportunity to bring attention to your Sustaining members, and perhaps include a plant tour and a 'meet and greet' for company leadership. Inform your Chapter Council District Rep so they can share the information with your local chapter neighbors.

HEAT TREAT SOCIETY COMPETITION
ASM HTS/Bodycote Best Paper in Heat Treating Contest

In 1997 the Heat Treating Society Board approved the establishment of a Best Paper in Heat Treating Award. This award recognizes a paper that represents advancement in heat treating technology, or promotes heat treating in some substantial way or represents a clear advancement in managing the business of heat treating.

The HTS/Bodycote Best Paper in Heat Treating Contest is open to all students, in full-time or part-time education, at universities (or their equivalent), and research and industrial establishments (or their equivalent). It is also open to those students who have graduated in the last 18 months and whose paper describes work completed while still a student. The subject matter of the paper is required to cover any aspect of research, development, and process or production technique relevant to the field of heat treating. All submissions must be accompanied by a statement from the candidate's Supervisor or Department stating that they are either a student in current attendance or they have graduated in the last 18 months.

The 2006 Bodycote Best Paper contest will be its 10 th anniversary, and to recognize this special anniversary, the value of the Prizes have been increased. The best presented paper, as judged by the audience of Bodycote Managers, will receive a plaque and $5,000. The best technical paper as judged by the panel of referees will also receive $5,000, and if the best presented paper is also the best technical paper, the winner will receive $10,000. The other two finalists will receive runner up prizes of $1,500 each. Bodycote covers all travel and subsistence expenses and no outlay will be required on the part of the winner.

NOMINEE SEARCH COMING TO AN END!!!
2006 Nominating Committee and Board of Trustees

It is now time for all of us to begin thinking about members of the 2006 Nominating Committee and the future officers and trustees of our Society. The Nominating Committee will have the responsibility to select trustees and officers who have the ability and the breadth of knowledge to lead the Society during times of change and to chart a course for ASM. The success of the Society in meeting its objectives and serving its members depends to a large degree upon the vision and capability of the officers and trustees in establishing policies and leadership in administering the affairs of the Society. Nominations for the 2006 Nominating Committee are currently being accepted and are due no later than December 1, 2005. Nominations for the 2005-06 ASM Board of Trustees are due no later than March 15, 2006. Nominations must be submitted on the official Nominating Committee or ASM Board of Trustees nomination form.

Download the forms and instructions from ASM's Website.

Forms are also available from Leslie Taylor, ASM Executive Office, Materials Park, OH 44073; tel. 440/338-5151, ext. 5500; fax: 440/338-4634; e-mail: Leslie.taylor@asminterntational.org
