New Photoresist Materials Focus of Central Glass, IBM Team

Japan's Central Glass Co. has forged a technology partnership with IBM Corp. to develop photoresist materials for the drawing of circuit patterns for future generations of semiconductors. Central Glass and IBM will work together to study fluorine compounds, investigating optimal mixing ratios and compositions.
Alcoa '07 Revenues, Income, Cash From Ops Set Records
Alcoa
Alcoa announces record results in revenues for the full year 2007. Revenues were $30.7 billion, compared to $30.4 billion in 2006. Annual income from continuing operations rose to $2.6 billion, a 19% increase compared to $2.2 billion in 2006.
Bayer, Daimler, ADM Sign Biofuel Research Agreement

Bayer AG, Daimler AG, and Archer Daniels Midland Co. have signed an agreement to jointly develop the production of biofuel diesel from the tropical Jatropha plant. Bayer's crop chemicals unit plans to develop pesticides for Jatropha farming, ADM's biodiesel refineries will turn the oil from the plant's nut kernels into engine fuel, and Daimler will explore the use of the fuel and mixtures of it with other fuels in its vehicles.
Report: China Provides 'Massive Energy Subsidies' to Steel Industry

According to a new report commissioned by the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM), the Chinese government has exponentially boosted its steel output over the last three years through massive, trade-distorting energy subsidies. Total energy subsidies to Chinese steel from 2000 to mid-year 2007 reached $27.11 billion.

Dynamic Flowform Corp. announces that the U.S. Marines have awarded it a contract for 60 mm and 81 mm Lightweight Mortar System cannon assemblies and spare components. The mortar tubes will be manufactured of Inconel 718 alloy by means of flowforming, which enables very high precision, thin walls, and lower cost. TNO in The Netherlands, under the auspices of the Custom-Fit project, is developing a new additive production system called High Viscosity Inkjet Printing. It has several print heads that produce continuous streams of material droplets at high frequency and is capable of printing multi-materials simultaneously.

Curtiss-Wright Corp. announce that its Metal Treatment segment has been awarded a contract from the Boeing Company to establish a laser peen forming production cell inside the Boeing facility in Frederickson, Washington. The laser peening cell is planned to be in production during the second quarter of 2008 and would initially be utilized for shaping the complex curvatures of some of the wing sections of the new Boeing 747-8.

Nucor Corp. has set a new record for sequence casting at its plant in Crawfordsville, Ind. Over a 38-hour period in late December, 24 ladles of steel were continuously cast via the Castrip process. Total throughput for the record was 2467 tons cast, while producing 2387 tons of prime coils.
