"Joe Zion - New HTP, AM&P Publisher"

Joe Zion
Vin LeGendre

Vin LeGendre has been named Senior Publisher for Heat Treating Progress and Advanced Materials & Processes. “Vin has been with ASM since 1989, when he started with AM&P as a regional sales representative,” said ASM Managing Director Stan Theobald. “He was named publisher for our magazines in 2005. It’s been a pleasure working with Vin through the years as he has built so many strong relationships with our advertisers and exhibitors.”

As part of Vin’s planned transition toward retirement by the end of 2007, Stan announced the hiring of Joseph M. Zion as publisher. Joe will direct the ASM Access Market group, which is responsible for all HTP, AM&P, and other ASM periodicals, expositions, and online media including the society’s growing Global Information Network of materials communities.

Joe brings to ASM more than 25 years of marketing and sales experience and a strong background in media strategy. Prior to joining ASM, he served as executive vice president of the Convention & Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland, where he managed sales, management, and development teams that brought large medical, industrial, and engineering tradeshows to Northeast Ohio, as well as major sporting events.

Recognized as one of Advertising Age magazine’s “100 people to know in media,” Joe also has extensive experience with developing integrated marketing and communications solutions to build brand awareness and increase new business, bringing together exhibits, print advertising, and electronic media in creative and cost-effective ways.

A Cleveland native, Joe is a graduate of Cleveland State University.

“Together, Vin and Joe are looking forward to working with our advertisers and exhibitors to provide access to the best of ASM — the magazines, events, and media that will help them reach their customers and prospects,” Stan said.

CAES Unhappy with Congress Energy Package

The Consumer Alliance for Energy Security (CAES), Washington, D.C., says supply provisions in the House Energy Package steer the nation in the wrong direction. At a time when demand for natural gas is mounting and domestic production is slumping, Congress should be promoting policies that result in responsible access to new sources of natural gas supply. However, elements of the pending House energy bill will slow and reduce well completions, delay new production, and result in higher prices for consumers, says CAES.

NPL Development Improves Thermocouple Accuracy

Researchers at the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, Middlesex, UK, Britain's measurement standards facility, developed metal alloys that reduce the uncertainty of thermocouple temperature sensors at high temperatures to within a degree. This allows boosting the high-temperature heat treatment of jet engine components, which translates to improved material properties and more efficient engine operation.
