ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

Dana Medlin, PhD
Associate Professor
Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Department (MET)
South Dakota School of Mines & Technology
Rapid City, South Dakota

A leading expert on materials for orthopedic applications who was previously principal engineer for Zimmer Inc., Medlin’s research is focused on minimally invasive surgical (MIS) procedures, which radically reduce the size of the surgical incision and potentially causes less damage to the soft tissue surrounding the replaced joint. Results of MIS include less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times and an overall lower cost to the health care system.

Shuvo Roy, PhD
Department of Biomedical Engineering (ND20)
Lerner Research Institute
Cleveland Clinic
Cleveland, Ohio

Roy is Co-Director of the BioMEMS Laboratory at the Cleveland Clinic's Lerner Research Institute, Department of Biomedical Engineering. With strong traditions of innovation and research, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation is strategically positioned to investigate and develop BioMEMS. Furthermore, the research environment at the Lerner Research Institute is unique as it provides the necessary multidisciplinary collaboration that will be required for the implementation of new and novel ideas into successful BioMEMS.
