President's Message: Thermal Spray Characterization in Charleston

The program for our event was really outstanding, and we are very fortunate to have had so many wonderful contributions. We heard from a range of experts discussing past, present, and future methods of characterization of thermal spray materials, coatings, and processes.

2017 is going to be a really great year for TSS. In addition to this event, we have two others scheduled.  In June we'll be in Dusseldorf for our flagship event, the International Thermal Spray Conference and Exposition (ITSC), where we expect well over 300 technical presentations.  

In September, we'll visit the GE Research Center in Niskayuna, N.Y. for a Thermal Spray Solutions and Suspensions Symposium (TS4). The GE facility is a great venue and should provide a top-notch setting for this meeting. This is the second time that TSS will hold an event on solution and suspension thermal spray, as there is a great deal of interest and research in this area right now. 

Looking ahead to 2018, ITSC will be in Orlando in May next year. We expect this to be the largest ITSC ever, and we'll be partnering with Aeromat and the Society of Vacuum Coaters.

While I have the stage, I want to take one moment to give you an update on what's happening within ASM. Under the leadership of our new Managing Director and new President, ASM is undertaking a major renewal campaign. This will include new forums for networking and collaborating, streamlined tools for accessing abstracts and other publications, and new products for sharing technical knowledge and best practices.  

Finally, I thank everyone who made this event possible: our organizers, speakers, and exhibitors, and especially our planning committee. A really very special thank you to our Conference Chair, Rick Bajan. I hope to see many of you at the informative events the TSS has planned for this year.
