Our Wednesday December 14th, 2016 Chapter Dinner Meeting.
Topic: Rafting the Grand Canyon - A 7 Day Adventure
John got hooked on rafting after his first trip down the San Juan river in southern Utah. He then rafted the Snake River through Hell's Canyon. He then tackled the granddaddy of them all, rafting the Colorado River in Grand Canyon for over 100 miles. It was a very interesting experience and he will discuss how involved it gets just getting to the rafting site, the fantastic service they provide, how they handle feeding you and handling waste, wild life, rock formations, etc. it will be an interesting presentation if you have any interest in nature and wildlife. Maybe it will even entice you to try a rafting trip.
Speaker: John Falkowski
John spent 29+ years at Boeing here in the Pacific Northwest. He is a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston. He started his career in the US Army stationed at Fort Lewis. John started his professional career at Hanford with GE in 1965. He also did stints with Scott Paper, Boise Cascade and Reichhold Chemicals in Environmental Mgt. before coming to Boeing. At Boeing John started his career in an organization referred to as MR&D, Manufacturing Research and Development and was also part of Boeing Materials Technology, an organization which ultimately evolved into what is now known as Boeing Research & Technology. He has been involved with chemical milling of aluminum alloys, nickel plating and thermal spray technology. His experience in the latter area resulted in his transferring to a customer service organization where he closed out his Boeing career with a primary function of thermal spray technology development and oversight in development of a replacement for hard chrome plating, which is not looked upon favorably by the EPA, for wear applications. He worked closely with several airlines for service evaluation of this new technology. Upon retirement, he got more involved with wine making, brewing, and wood working focusing on intarsia and scroll sawing and recently won a blue ribbon for a scroll saw carving of a Viking warrior.
