MIT MetLab: pioneering materials research and education for the modern age
The Laboratory for Physical Metallurgy (MetLab) is a Shared Experimental Facility within MIT’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Designed to support both research and teaching, MetLab provides essential resources for metallurgical investigations, including metallography, sample preparation, heat treatment, characterization, and mechanical testing of materials. While its foundation lies in metallurgy, the facility serves a diverse range of research areas beyond metals, encompassing polymers, biomaterials, semiconductors, and electronic materials.
