3D printing of metal in air with no support or special chamber

This video shows a freely articulating 3D printer, developed by Joris Laarman Lab, Amsterdam.  A robotic arm typically used in car manufacturing is combined with a welding machine to melt and deposit metal such as steel or copper, to create lines that can be printed horizontally, vertically, or in curves, without the need for support structures. Adding small amounts of molten metal at a time, lines are printed in mid-air.
