Alcoa Fastening Systems, Waco, Tex., introduces the BobTail HuckBolt, representing the most advanced fastening technology to date. Recognized as the next-generation lockbolt, the Huck BobTail delivers 5 times the fatigue strength of conventional nuts and bolts, and is engineered to provide the highest level of strength, reliability, and vibration-resistant performance even in the most extreme environments.
Engineered to meet the challenges of a wide range of assembly applications, BobTail offers high performance and easy, quick installation. The swaged collar design of the Huck BobTail allows the collar to form over the lock thread, eliminating gaps on thread flanks to deliver a more secure connection than is possible with regular nuts and bolts.
The installation indicator in the collar flange, a proprietary Huck design, signals that the collar has been fully swaged on, allowing the joint quality to be checked with a simple visual inspection. Huck BobTail lockbolts are not subjected to torsion during installation, allowing them to be taken to higher preload values, which results in a much tighter joint. In addition, the pintail-less design of the Bobtail makes it the most corrosion resistant lockbolt in its class.
The BobTail HuckBolt is available in 3/16 in., 1/4 in., 5/16 in., 3/8 in., 1/2 in., 5/8 in., 3/4 in., 7/8 in., 1 in., 12 mm, 14 mm, 16 mm, and 20 mm sizes in steel, aluminum, or stainless steel materials. The wide range of BobTail configurations combined with its strength and ease of installation make it ideal for a number of operations requirements.
BobTail tooling makes the installation process simple by reducing the force required to install each fastener and eliminating the need for specially trained installation personnel. The compact, lightweight tooling offers greater operator flexibility by allowing operators to perform installations in tight, space-constrained applications. The low-swage, ergonomic design provides a smooth, shock-free installation process that eliminates repetitive stress injuries and increases overall safety.
