President’s Message: JTST Editorship Renewal

The Journal of Thermal Spray Technology is the TSS flagship publication on the science and technology of thermal spray. The journal was launched in 1992 by ASM under the leadership of Prof. Chris Berndt, the founding Editor-in-Chief, who developed the vision for the future growth of this highly specialized journal. Since then, it has evolved to become an internationally renowned peer-reviewed publication with contributions from researchers and practitioners from all continents.

Starting this month, the journal will continue to grow under the leadership of Prof. Armelle Vardelle from the Université de Limoges as the new Editor-in-Chief. Armelle has been committed to the success of the journal for ten years, initially as Associate Editor and as Lead Editor since 2010. As Editor-in-Chief, she brings her unique expertise in thermal spray, her impressive experience in reviewing and managing scientific papers, and her endless energy to move things forward. Additionally, Prof. André McDonald from the University of Alberta is joining the editorial team as Lead Editor. Clearly I am convinced that Armelle and André will lead the journal to new heights with their vision, enthusiasm, and dedication.

Over the last 12 years, as JTST Editor-in-Chief, I had the chance to work with a team of amazing people who gave their time and energy to continuously improve the quality and visibility of this journal. The team included Basil Marple (Canada) and Armelle Vardelle (France) as Lead Editors, as well as Associate Editors Margaret Hyland (New Zealand), Seiji Kuroda (Japan), Kendall Hollis (USA), Chang-Jiu Li (China), and Georg Mauer (Germany). They could always be relied upon to review each manuscript in terms of originality and overall quality. The members of the Editorial Committee and, in particular, the Committee Chairs, Joachim Heberlein, Chris Berndt, and Robert Tucker, provided the wisdom, guidance, and support to expand the worldwide recognition and pertinence of the journal.

Over all those years, the ASM staff has done an incredible job to support the publication of an increasing number of papers in a timely and very professional manner. I extend special thanks to Mary Anne Fleming and Patricia Conti in this regard. Thanks also to the authors and reviewers whose work makes it possible to publish exciting original articles on recent advances on thermal spray coatings and processes. It was a privilege, honor, and pleasure to work with all of you! Thanks!

Having said that, I wish you and your family all the best for the New Year. May health, prosperity, and numerous exciting projects (some of them related to thermal spray!) be yours.

Christian
