Hard to believe, but we’re already halfway into 2016! Over the last six months, important activities were conducted by TSS to stimulate the growth of the science and technology of thermal spray. Here are a few examples of what we have accomplished.
We held our flagship event in Shanghai last month. Indeed, the International Thermal Spray Conference 2016 was a great success, thanks to the hard work of all organizing partners. In addition to DVS and ASM-TSS, our Chinese colleagues included the Thermal Spraying Committee of the Chinese Surface Engineering Association, and the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The event was very well attended with numerous new participants, a good sign of the rapid expansion of thermal spray in Asia.
Also last month, the leadership of our Society met at the ASM Dome for a two-day strategic planning exercise. We reviewed the mission, vision, and key challenges facing our Society. The work will continue in the coming months to finalize a strong plan that will guide our actions into the future.
The TSS Programming Committee is working in close cooperation with the Canadian Cold Spray Alliance to organize a co-sponsored topical event on cold spray in Edmonton, Canada, late this Fall.
