Congratulations to Mr. Douglas G. Puerta, Director, Aerospace Product Qualification Testing, Element Materials Technology, who has been elected to succeed me as President of TSS. Doug is a long time member of TSS, having served on the Board since 2009. In addition, he has served as Chair of the Accepted Practices Committee on Metallography and Mechanical Testing, and as a member of the Thermal Spray Advisory Council and the TSS Nominating Committee.
Dr. André McDonald, University of Alberta, has been elected Vice-President of TSS. After leading the TSS Training Committee, organizing topical events on cold spray, and acting as Editor for the ITSC proceedings, he was appointed as Lead Editor of the TSS Journal of Thermal Spray Technology in January 2016. He is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta, where he has taught numerous students, at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, in the areas of thermal spraying and heat transfer.
I would like also to welcome three new leaders to the TSS Board: Dr. James Ruud, Senior Principal Scientist at GE Global Research; Mr. Komal Laul, Technology Programs Manager at Chromalloy; and Mr. Maurice E. VandenBergh, President of VandenBergh & Associates, Inc. All will start their terms on the Board this fall, and will contribute to the evolution and pertinence of our Society in the coming years.
I would like to thank and express my sincere gratitude to those who have completed terms on the TSS Board. They are Mr. Luc Pouliot, Past-President; and Dr. Ann Bolcavage, FASM; Prof. Masahiro Fukumoto, FASM; and Dr. Dongming Zhu, FASM, as Directors, as well as Jeremy Schreiber and Yoanna Shams, as Student Board members.
