Aluminum producer Constellium adds metals R&D center to Brunel University in London

Constellium N.V., Amsterdam, has expanded its University Technology Center (UTC) at Brunel University in London with an R&D center to transition technology from the laboratory to its production facilities around the world.  The new Advanced Metals Processing Centre (AMPC) includes capabilities such as freeform 3D bending, electromagnetic pulse forming, and sawing, as well as joining techniques such as welding and self-piercing rivets.

Opened in 2016, the UTC first focused on aluminum alloy development, with industrial scale casting and extrusion equipment to reduce the time to bring a new alloy to market. The expanded facility will form, join and test prototype automotive components such as Crash Management Systems, body structure components and battery enclosures for electric and hybrid vehicles from state-of-the-art facilities on the Brunel campus.
