The Sustainable Materials Engineering Committee addresses the urgent global demand for sustainability driven by evolving government policies, consumer expectations, and corporate strategic shifts. As the materials sector becomes pivotal in the next decade’s environmental solutions, the committee focuses on developing materials that reduce carbon emissions, advance renewable energy systems for power generation and storage, enhance electric vehicle technologies, and minimize waste through improved recycling, reuse, and biodegradability.

The committee advances these goals by developing targeted conference programming, publications, and educational offerings while supporting student outreach initiatives in partnership with the ASM Materials Education Foundation.
