Due for completion in 2016, the goal is to build massive movable gates to protect the city of Venice from the encroaching Adriatic Sea during high tides. The project is an integrated system consisting of rows of mobile steel gates installed at the Lido, Malamocco, and Chioggia inlets that will be able to temporarily isolate the Venetian Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea.
