{"id":10024,"date":"2020-01-04T21:27:47","date_gmt":"2020-01-04T21:27:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.asminternational.org\/hts-new\/solar-atmospheres-invests-in-state-of-the-art-lathe-to-bring-machining-in-house\/"},"modified":"2023-02-23T22:36:15","modified_gmt":"2023-02-23T22:36:15","slug":"solar-atmospheres-invests-in-state-of-the-art-lathe-to-bring-machining-in-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.asminternational.org\/hts\/solar-atmospheres-invests-in-state-of-the-art-lathe-to-bring-machining-in-house\/","title":{"rendered":"Solar Atmospheres invests in state-of-the-art lathe to bring machining in-house"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\">Solar Atmospheres of Western Pennsylvania recently invested in a new Haas ST-10 CNC lathe to support rapid growth in machining of test specimens within its mechanical testing department. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\">The Haas ST-10\u2019s 6000 rpm spindle features an automatic tool changer with a 12-station, bolt-on tool turret, which enables Solar\u2019s machining center to automatically change tools at the push of a button. This results in significant savings in time and cost-over Solar\u2019s original TL-1 Haas lathe, which requires up to five manual tool changes to produce one tensile specimen. The investment in an automated lathe results in a 50% savings in the production of a variety of round tensile specimens. The TL-1 lathe will be retained as back-up in the case of an unexpected breakdown.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The increased machining efficiency of the Haas ST-10 improves turnaround time for the customer at the final stage in the thermal process, obtaining the tensile test results of processed materials.
