ASM is a catalyst for solving problems and stimulating innovation around the world, and acts as a central resource for gathering the latest applied information and disseminating this knowledge to industry, academia, and the government through published content, classes, events, and local chapter engagement. ASM International has provided leading-edge technical, educational, and metallurgical capabilities for over 102 years.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC) is the international industry-leading resource for learning, applying, and advancing vacuum coating, surface engineering, and related technologies. For 59 years, SVC has been dedicated to providing a global forum to inform, educate, and engage its members, the technical community, and the public on all aspects of such technologies.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe new strategic alliance brings the complementary strengths of both organizations together to better serve their global members and the community at large. As part of this alliance, ASM will begin providing comprehensive association management services to SVC and the SVC Foundation starting July 1. ASM International&#8217;s presence at SVC TechCon in Indianapolis is to help facilitate the management service transition.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&#8220;Going forward, the SVC\/ASM alliance will extend and enhance the collaborative opportunities to address complex industrial and academic opportunities from basic research through process optimization in materials, coatings, and surface science technologies,&#8221; says Professor Wolfgang Diehl, SVC president.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"mailto:Thomas.Dudley@asminternational.org\">Thomas Dudley<\/a>, interim managing director of ASM, commented, &#8220;ASM International brings an organizational critical mass and complementary set of affiliate organizations to deploy comprehensive solutions and training in a depth and breadth that was not previously possible.&#8221; Jon Tirpak, president of ASM International, added that he looks forward to a long working relationship with SVC for the benefit of both organizations.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIncoming SVC president <a href=\"mailto:gvergason@vergason.com\">Gary Vergason<\/a> says, &#8220;ASM&#8217;s headquarters houses a world-class, hands-on training facility that will greatly enhance our year-round educational program for technicians and engineers. Bringing PVD equipment into ASM&#8217;s equipment lab will provide a wide tutorial range from system design and troubleshooting through process techniques and development.
