To be considered for the ASM Heat Treating Society Prime Contributor recognition, papers must appear in either the <em>HTPro<\/em> quarterly newsletter or be published in ASM\u2019s Heat Treat conference proceedings. All manuscripts from industrial companies (not universities or national labs) are automatically considered on an annual basis. Papers are judged on several criteria, including production readiness, breadth of potential applications, and writing clarity, among other factors.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the new honor is twofold\u2014to recognize outstanding industry-focused manuscripts and to encourage submissions to both <em>HTPro<\/em> and the Heat Treat conference, which takes place every other year. Inaugural winners include the following authors and their companies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>James Jan and Madhusudhan Nannapuraju of Ford Motor Company for their paper, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asminternational.org\/documents\/1411005\/2036849\/cp2017ht68+%281%29.pdf\/90629bf2-acbf-e765-40c5-1be8ecae86f9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cCFD Investigation of Quench Media and Orientation Effects on Structural Stress Induced in the Intense Quenching Processes for Aluminum Cylinder Heads.\u201d<\/a> Published in the 2017 HTS Conference Proceedings.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Gary Doyon, Valery Rudnev, FASM, Collin Russell, and John Maher of Inductoheat Inc. for their paper, <a href=\"https:\/\/matdata.asminternational.org\/amp\/201706\/#72\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cRevolution\u2014Not Evolution\u2014Necessary to Advance Induction Heat Treating.\u201d<\/a> Published in the September 2017 issue of HTPro.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Winners receive a plaque and a digital logo for use in promoting their awards.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact Frances Richards at <a href=\"mailto:frances.richards@asminternational.org\">frances.richards@asminternational.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2017, ASM\u2019s Heat Treating Society R&amp;D Committee established a new recognition for the best papers in the heat treat industry each year.
