Burloak Technologies, a division of Samuel, Son & Co., Dundas, Ontario, is investing a total of $81.5 million in a new Additive Manufacturing Technology Center in Oakville, Ontario. Burloak designs and manufactures metal and plastic AM parts for a range of industries, including aerospace, defense, energy, medical, automotive, and transportation.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Assisted by $5.4 million in support from Ontario\u2019s Jobs and Prosperity Fund, the new facility is expected to enable the company to scale up and reach new markets by developing innovative designs, improving its manufacturing processes, and introducing new products.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAdditive manufacturing is a rapidly developing technology that is destined to become a multi-billion-dollar industry,\u201d says Peter Adams, Burloak President and Co-founder. \u201cThrough this investment, the provincial government is showing its leadership and support for innovation in the manufacturing sector and is helping to establish world-class 3D printing capabilities right here in Ontario.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the support by Ontario\u2019s Jobs and Prosperity Fund, the investment was said to have been made possible through the Canadian Strategic Innovation Fund. This is a program designed to attract and support high-quality business investments across all sectors of the economy, by encouraging R&D that will accelerate technology transfer and the commercialization of innovative products, processes, and services, and to facilitate the growth of innovative firms.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Samuel, Son & Co. is one of North America\u2019s largest metal manufacturing, processing and distribution companies. The company employs more than 5200 people at over 100 facilities worldwide.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
