{"id":8122,"date":"2016-12-23T20:19:46","date_gmt":"2016-12-23T20:19:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.asminternational.org\/hts-new\/results\/-\/journal_content\/56\/10192\/27070417\/NEWS\/"},"modified":"2023-02-07T04:48:08","modified_gmt":"2023-02-07T04:48:08","slug":"big-river-steel-flex-mill-to-produce-hot-rolled-steel-one-inch-thick-78-inches-wide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.asminternational.org\/hts\/big-river-steel-flex-mill-to-produce-hot-rolled-steel-one-inch-thick-78-inches-wide\/","title":{"rendered":"Big River Steel Flex Mill to produce hot rolled steel one inch thick, 78 inches wide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\tBig&nbsp;River Steel, Osceola, Ark., announces that it has begun operations in the first steel mill in&nbsp;North America&nbsp;to connect an electric arc furnace to a Ruhrstahl Heraeus degasser, and will be the only EAF mill in&nbsp;the United States&nbsp;to produce hot rolled steel as thick as one inch and as wide as 78&nbsp; inches. &nbsp;Based on the technology and the design of the facility, the mill will reportedly produce a range of material dimensions and strength levels never before produced in an EAF mill.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 0.9375em; font-weight: 400;\">The company says this is the world&#8217;s first Flex Mill melt shop and hot mill. These are the third and fourth areas of the mill to be commissioned following the batch anneal facility and temper mill. The first hot-rolled coil was purchased by Zekelman Industries and will be sent to Atlas Tube, one of the company&#8217;s structural tube mills in&nbsp;Blytheville, Arkansas. Zekelman Industries purchased the coil for&nbsp;$100,000&nbsp;with the entire amount jointly contributed by Big River and Zekelman Industries to Wounded Warrior Project and&nbsp;Arkansas Northeastern College.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\tUnder construction since&nbsp;July 2014, Big River is commissioning some of the world&#8217;s newest steelmaking technology and will recycle approximately two million tons of scrap metal and other metallics to produce 1.6 million tons of finished steel products annually.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bigriversteel.com\/\">www.bigriversteel.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Big River Steel, Osceola, Ark., announces that it has begun operations in the first steel mill in North America to connect an electric arc furnace to a Ruhrstahl Heraeus degasser, and will be the only EAF mill in the United States to produce hot rolled steel as thick as one inch and as wide as 78  inches.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":63082,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[459,439,458,440,441,1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-8122","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-buildings-and-infrastructure","category-general","category-marine-applications","category-news","category-news-articles","category-uncategorized"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.9 -
