If you are new to metallurgical lab testing or looking for new ways to make your lab more efficient, ASM is offering a new professional coaching opportunity dedicated to teaching best practices and processes commonly used in a metallurgical lab.
This professional coaching opportunity is offered in a one-on-one or small group (2-3 participants) setting at ASM headquarters in Materials Park, Ohio. Our lab coach will consult with you prior to the session to discover the issues facing your lab and develop a customized plan that showcases ways to make it more efficient.
We'll cover a variety of topics that may include:
Sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching samples
Photomicrographs, using optical microscopes, micro hardness and macro hardness
Basic principles of and sample demonstrations on the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
Your Coach: John Peppler.
Mr. Peppler earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Metallurgy and Materials Science from Case Western Reserve University and was concurrently awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Marietta College in Physics. John brings 28 years of experience in metallurgy and materials science to ASM and has been providing hands on training in laboratory practices for the last six years. He has provided materials engineering support for the design and manufacturing of products in the aerospace, printing equipment and consumer product industries. He is experienced in the selection, specification and testing of a wide variety of metallic and non-metallic materials and processing.
