In recent years, the application of phase diagram information obtained from thermodynamic calculations to practical processes has increased significantly. Thermodynamic descriptions have become available for a large number of alloy systems and allow the calculation of the phase diagrams of multicomponent alloys. In addition to the phase equilibria data, the thermodynamic calculation also provides parameters that are needed for the simulation of casting processes, such as enthalpy data or driving forces for phase formation, as well as thermodynamic information that is needed for simulations considering kinetic factors.
