The 115 ternary systems presented in this edition have been selected using the ternaries in the first edition as a starting point, retaining many of them, and adding others based on frequency of citation in the ASM Alloy Phase Diagram Database. There is a total of 406 ternary diagrams covered in this edition. Because this Handbook is designed to be used primarily by engineers to solve industrial problems, the composition scale is plotted in weight percent. For the sake of clarity, grid lines are not superimposed on the phase diagrams. However, tick marks are provided along the composition scales as well as the temperature scale, which is shown in degrees Celsius. When an arrowhead appears on a temperature trough line in a liquidus projection, it indicates the direction of decreasing temperature in the trough. Dashed lines are used to denote uncertain or speculative boundaries.
