Rebuilding American manufacturing

AOL’s This Built America editorial series is traveling the country to spotlight companies in each state for their role in re-imagining and rebuilding American manufacturing. Puris LLC debuts this week, representing the state of West Virginia. The titanium powder producer launched in early 2014 to meet growing demand for high-purity titanium powder in additive manufacturing, including 3D printing.

“Puris is a true national asset. Our technology is available to only a handful of companies in the world right now. We’ve engaged the leading metallurgists in titanium powder. And, we have the highest-capacity, refractory-free titanium powder plant in America,” CEO Craig Kirsch said regarding the company’s inclusion in the project.

“Puris is part of a larger story taking shape in American manufacturing today around the advent of 3D printing. Ultimately, this technology will empower engineers in such industries as aerospace, automotive, medical and oil and gas, to re-imagine how parts are designed by alleviating the time and cost constraints of tool-and-die manufacturing. It is incredibly exciting to be at the front edge of the demand curve with a leading material for 3D printing, highly pure titanium powder.”

According to This Built America’s Andrew Ward, “With 3D printing emerging as a major influencer in manufacturing, This Built America feels Puris’s story offers a compelling look at the continuing evolution of their industry. Puris combines experts with younger workers — all demonstrating a passion for their American-made products. That is exactly what the series strives to celebrate in each episode.”

As the 42nd company featured on This Built America, Puris joins Mississippi’s Battlebells, Ohio’s Airstream and Louisiana’s Tabasco, among others. “We’re honored to be featured with businesses that are working for America’s manufacturing future,” Kirsch said.

The project is exploring all 50 states to tell 50 stories of the businesses that are bringing manufacturing back in America. The platform is produced in coordination with Man Made Content.
