Residual Stress Technical Committee

We focus on providing new programs, educational content, publications, and services related to understanding and characterizing residual stresses and addressing their impacts in the selection, processing, design, modeling and application of materials and structures.

Who We Are

The Residual Stress Technical Committee is made up of ASM members and other members of the materials and manufacturing community who are involved in researching and understanding residual stresses and addressing their impacts.

RSTC Subcommittees:

  • The Industry Standards Subcommittee works together with representatives from standards organizations to create and update useful standards related to residual stresses.
  • The Residual Stress Handbook Subcommittee is working on developing a new ASM Handbook volume on residual stress, in coordination with ASM Handbook Committee.
  • The Education and Chapter Outreach Committee helps to coordinate educational presentations at chapter meetings and conferences.
  • The Professional Meetings, Conferences, and Symposia Subcommittee coordinates the development of residual stress programming and symposia at ASM conferences such as the annual International Materials, Applications, and Technologies (IMAT) conference and AeroMat.
  • The University Outreach Subcommittee is working on developing relationships with and resources for university departments to help support education and research related to residual stresses.
  • The Technical Collaboration Subcommittee engages with other committees, industry groups, and organizations to develop and execute collaborative programs, share expertise, and advance awareness about residual stresses.
