Memry’s Redox Nitinol alloy includes 80% fewer oxides

Memry Corp., Bethel, Conn., an SAES Getters Company, offers Nitinol products available in Redox, a new alloy with 80% fewer oxides and smaller particle size. The result is enhanced microcleanliness and enhanced confidence. The industry measures nitinol microcleanliness by the amount of non-metallic inclusions and porosity.  Typical non-metallic inclusions are carbides (TiC), and intermetallic oxides (Ti4Ni2Ox). The size and distribution of inclusions like these play a critical role for device designers who work with nitinol.

Redox offers significant improvements over SAES and ASTM F 2063 Standards for maximum inclusion area and size. Nitinol and other advanced alloys are used in key components in the aerospace and automotive industries, particularly where thermal shape memory enables actuators. Memry’s major industrial markets and applications include sealing plugs and locking rings for automotive; locking rings, actuators, and connectors for electronic and safety devices in aerospace; and specialty antennas, wire, harness, and cable for defense.
