Aleris, Cleveland, announces that it has signed a contract with Boeing to provide aluminum sheet and plate for fuselage and wing structure components for the production of various airplane models over the next several years. Aleris manufactures plate of many different standard and customer-specified alloys using some of the world’s most advanced hot and cold rolling mills. With a 160-inch hot rolling mill and a 148-inch cold rolling mill, the company can produce very wide and ultra-thick plates, either heat-treated or not heat-treated.
Aleris has more than 30 years of experience serving the aerospace industry. It intends to supply innovative materials to Boeing with the objective to meet the industry’s highest quality standards. Products provided by Aleris will be used in applications across Boeing’s commercial airplane models.
Aleris has invested in a full-scale direct-chill (DC) pilot caster at its facility in Koblenz, Germany, illustrating its commitment to increasing its leadership in technically demanding industry segments. The specialized facility is able to cast full-scale ingots for trials as well as for serial production of aluminum-lithium products.
“Our strength lies in the combination of strategically located production facilities and a continuous focus on enhancing our product offering,” says Sean Stack, Aleris Chairman and CEO. “We are committed to service and innovation to meet Boeing’s high expectations in a particularly competitive environment.”
Aleris is well positioned to support the significant growth of the aerospace industry in the coming years. According to Boeing’s Current Market Outlook, worldwide demand will require 41,030 new airplanes over the next 20 years.
