The Society for Protective Coatings, the American Welding Society, and NACE International announce a public review period for its proposed Joint Standard/Standard Practice, “Specification for the Application of Thermal Spray Coatings (Metallizing) of Aluminum, Zinc, and Their Alloys and Composites for the Corrosion Protection of Steel.”
Draft #1 of a proposed revision to this joint standard (SSPC-CS 23.00/AWS C.2.23/NACE No. 12), is being issued for consensus committee ballot by SSPC, NACE, and AWS in early January 2019.
Interested stakeholders (especially those in the “general interest” category who neither apply nor specify thermal spray coatings) may contact Aimée Beggs, Standards Development Specialist, at [email protected] (phone 412-288-6042) to obtain a copy of the draft for review purposes.
This SSPC/AWS/NACE joint standard contains requirements for best industry practice in the application of zinc and aluminum alloys to steel substrates for the preservation and maintenance of steel structures and components. It also may be used by thermal spray coating inspectors to assess the quality of surface preparation and coating application, and by thermal spray contractors to develop project work plans.
Comments should be received no later than March 1, 2019, and should be sent to [email protected], using “Draft #1 SSPC/AWS/NACE Thermal Spray Standard 2019”as the subject line for the e-mail.
