Velo 3D receives $20 million order for metal AM printers from aerospace manufacturer

Velo 3D, Campbell, Calif., announces that it has received a $20M order for its metal additive manufacturing printers, the largest order since its commercial launch in 2018, from a current aerospace customer.

“This significant order validates that our SupportFree process is production-ready,” says Benny Buller, founder and CEO of Velo 3D. “Our recent successes across various industrial sectors show that many OEMs and contract manufacturers are adapting their supply chains to meet the demands of manufacturing mission-critical components. Design freedom, agile production, and quality assurance are requirements that we are uniquely positioned to meet.”

The company is known for enabling geometric freedom through its patented SupportFree process, which reduces the consideration of support structures for complex passageways, shallow overhangs, and low angles. The SupportFree solution consists of Flow pre-print software, Sapphire metal AM printer, and Assure quality assurance and control system.

SupportFree capability enables unlimited design innovation by reducing the need for support structures in metal additive manufacturing. The company’s Sapphire system is built with a semiconductor mindset on quality assurance, ensuring repeatability, and dependability throughout serial manufacturing

This contract news comes after the announcement last week regarding the completion of a $40M fundraising round in the midst of COVID-19, increasing total fundraising to $150M to date.
