Century Aluminum Co., Chicago Ill., announces that its wholly owned subsidiary has completed the transaction with Rio Tinto Alcan Inc. to acquire substantially all of the assets of the Sebree aluminum smelter. The Sebree smelter, located in Henderson County, Kentucky, has an annual production capacity of 205,000 metric tons of primary aluminum. Century Aluminum Company owns primary aluminum capacity in the United States and Iceland.

Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Altanta, “painted” the Mona Lisa on a substrate surface approximately 30 µm in width-one-third the width of a human hair.
GKN Sinter Metals plans $10 million expansion of Ohio plant
GKN Sinter Metals, Auburn Hills, Mich., plans a $10 million expansion of its Gallipolis production facility in southeastern Ohio’s Gallia County. The expansion will include the installation of a new 750-metric-ton, powder-compaction press along with other capital equipment to launch production of differential-gear components developed at the plant. The project is expected to add 50 full-time jobs and generate up to $20 million in additional sales for the company over the next two to three years.
