MSC Software Corp., Newport Beach, Calif., announced the new release of Marc 2013.1 which provides engineers with faster nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) with new modeling options and increased ease of use. Performance improvements that take advantage of the modern multi-core processors are implemented. This may be used in conjunction with domain decomposition (DDM) and/or the parallel solution of equations of motion.
Sematech and Air Products to collaborate on development of advanced chemical products
Sematech, Albany, N.Y., announces that Air Products and Chemicals, Allentown, Pa., has joined its Front End Processes program, and will work with Sematech to assess advanced materials and technologies for the development of sub-10 nm node III-V devices. Continued scaling will require new materials and chemistries to keep pace with the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors.
Thermal Spray Technologies celebrates a million hours with no lost time
Thermal Spray Technologies, Sun Prairie, Wis., has celebrated one million hours with no lost time.. “One million hours with no lost time is a notable accomplishment in an industry with a high potential for injury,” said John Fehl, a member of the Thermal Spray Technologies production team. Generally, manufacturing companies experience workplace injuries every one to two months.
Extrusion for greener aluminum production
Aluminum recycling has become a successful business since its inception a century ago. Nearly a third of the aluminum produced in the United States is made from aluminum scraps that have been recycled in a process-usually remelting-that uses only 5-10% of the energy it takes to extract aluminum from mined bauxite ore.
Heat treatment system integrates heat treating process with production line
ALD Vacuum Technologies, East Windsor, Conn., has developed SyncroTherm, a system that enables integrating heat treatment directly into the machining production line. The heat treatment of large batches is converted to treatment of single components, where parts are charged in one layer on one workpiece carrier. The flat-panel radiators installed in top and bottom radiate the heat directly onto each part, heating the “2D-charges” rapidly and homogeneously.
