A research team led by Prof. Wu Zhong-Shuai from the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has developed all-3D printed Li metal batteries (LMBs) with robust cycle stability and ultrahigh areal energy density.
Researchers develop novel method to detect flaws in rubber
A research team from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and Eastman, developed a new method to ensure consistency and quality in rubber manufacturing. Their novel process—which goes beyond optical microscopy—is likely to show real-world impact on material sustainability and durability for products such as car tires.
High entropy alloys: Probing for structural disorder and magnetic properties
High entropy alloys or HEAs consist of five or more different metallic elements and are an extremely interesting class of materials with a great diversity of potential applications. Since the macroscopic properties of HEAs are strongly dependent on interatomic interactions, researchers can probe their local structure and structural disorder around each individual element by element-specific techniques. Now, a team has utilized unique spectroscopy methods to examine a so-called Cantor alloy—a model system to study the high-entropy effects on the local and macroscopic scales.
Tubeless tires – the interesting physics behind them
Video description This video gets into the engineering and physics behind tubeless tires.
The four ways amorphous materials fail
Researchers at the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo have shown that for amorphous materials, cyclic material fatigue can begin to fracture at the same level of stress as fractures due to constant loading, and using computer simulations, the team could distinguish four distinct failure modes.
