Geodesic Dome Design Competition

DomesDay 2018: They Came, They Saw, We Smashed!

Eight teams gathered at the 2018 ASM Annual Meeting (held in conjunction with MS&T) in Columbus, OH to compete against each other and watch their domes fail under compression testing. Dome of the Devils from Arizona State University won first place and $1,000. Virginia Tech's two teams, VT Dimmadome and VT MSE Foundry Team, won second place ($750) and Judges' Choice ($500) respectively. Each dome was judged on aesthetics, presentation, poster, cost report, and mechanical strength. We would like to thank all of our competitiors for participating this year! 

First Place with $1,000: Arizona State University - Dome of the Devils

Second Place with $750 : Virginia Tech - VT Dimmadome

Judges' Choice with $500: Virginia Tech - VT MSE Foundry Team

DomesDay 2019 will take place Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the ASM Annual Meeting, held in conjunction with MS&T19 in Portland, Oregon. Registration for DomesDay will open early 2019. 

Established in 2014 by the ASM Student Board Members, DomesDay is intended to familiarize Material Advantage students with a piece of ASM culture, the Dome, by involving them in a design and materials selection competition.
