3D printing creates and assesses alloys

A 3D printer allows researchers at Ames Laboratory, Iowa, to rapidly create and assess alloys of varying composition to find just the right combination to produce materials with the desired characteristics. In the video, Ames Laboratory scientist Ryan Ott talks about the system which uses a laser to melt powders deposited on a substrate.
