Electric Power Research Institute explains high-altitude electromagnetic pulses (HEMP)

High-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) refers to the electromagnetic pulse that is created by the high-altitude detonation of a nuclear weapon. Numerous stakeholders assert that a HEMP attack is probable, and its impact would be catastrophic to the power system infrastructure. However, a science-based approach is needed to assess the true impact of this threat. To address this gap, The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has developed a comprehensive research plan that will be carried out over a three-year period. This video provides an overview of the science of high-altitude electromagnetic pulses and EPRI’s three-year research plan. This video was produced in March of 2017.
