Forging the future: advancing military and civil works with metal additive manufacturing
The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is dedicated to solving the nation’s most complex challenges in civil and military engineering, geospatial sciences, water resources, and environmental sciences. As part of its mission to maintain technological superiority and strengthen defense infrastructure, ERDC’s Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory, in collaboration with the Information Technology Laboratory, has integrated the M1 Metal Additive Manufacturing Machine, developed by MX3D, into its operations. Utilizing wire-based Directed Energy Deposition (DED) technology, the M1 can fabricate large-scale, high-performance metal components with exceptional precision, accelerating the development of complex parts that are difficult to produce through traditional methods.
