We have many things going on this month during Engineers Week, now rebranded as EWEEK. First, we encourage you to participate in the banquets hosted by the two engineering umbrella organizations in our area. It is a good opportunity to get to know some of the other science, engineering, and business people in our area.

We will continue our contest this year, the CO2 jet powered model dragster races, to be held on Sunday, February 11 during Celebrating Engineering Ingenuity Day at the Science Museum of Virginia in Richmond. It is primarily for grade and high school students, but it is open to everyone. We will also have an ASM informational table in the open exhibit space, so feel free to stop by or volunteer to help with questions from the attendees. See the separate chapter website page for more information on the contest.

The Richmond Joint Engineers Council's (RJEC) Engineers Week Banquet will be held on Thursday, February 22 at The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. Our keynote speaker this year is Clayton P. Turner, Deputy Director, NASA Langley Research Center. Prior to his appointment as deputy director, he served as the associate director where he was responsible for managing day-to-day operations with a focus on center commitments. In this capacity he was also responsible for aligning Langley’s institutional resources and infrastructure to meet current and future NASA mission needs, optimizing both effectiveness and efficiency.

Reservations can be made, and more information is available, on the RJEC web site. A paper reservation form for payment by check is available here.

The Peninsula Engineers Council's (PEC) annual Engineering Career Days will occur over two days, Thursday and Friday, February 22 and 23. The event is from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM each day at the NASA Langley Research Center IESB Conference Center. Our chapter will have a table at the event, so please feel free to stop by or volunteer to help.

PEC's Engineer of the Year Banquet will be held on Sunday, February 24 at the Embassy Suites Hampton Roads Convention Center, 1700 Coliseum Drive, Hampton. The Guest Speaker will be Jessica Foley, PhD, the Chief Scientific Officer for the Focused Ultrasound Foundation. Please see their web site for more information on our speaker and on focused ultrasound (a surgical procedure focusing over 1100 ultrasound sources to enable non-invasive, deep brain and body surgical procedures.) The Engineer of the year recipient is Jeff Cerro of NASA, and the winner of the Doug Ensor Young Engineer Award is Chris Story from Newport News Shipbuilding.

Reservations can be made through the PEC Eventbrite link.
