Technical meeting.


Current metals-related research activities being performed at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). PNNL is a research laboratory based in Richland Washington that is operated by the Battelle Memorial Institute for the Department of Energy. Specific topics will include a new shear-based extrusion process being developed for high performance magnesium alloys for automotive applications, fabrication of a metallic uranium nuclear fuel for high performance research reactors and the use of high resolution characterization to understand strengthening in a beta titanium alloy


Curt Lavender, Battelle Memorial Institute


Curt has over 30 years of experience in the development of materials and processing technologies ranging from primary metal reduction technologies to final product inspection. Specific areas of process development for metalworking operations include casting, forging, extrusion, drawing, tube-reducing, rolling, stamping and superplastic forming. During the course of these development efforts Mr. Lavender has been responsible for taking several novel processing technologies from concept into full commercialization.

Curt has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles in the area of metallurgy and holds 6 patents.
