The 27th ASM Heat Treating Society Conference and Exposition (Heat Treat 2013) concluded this week with a strong attendance from the Heat Treating community and a sold out crowd of exhibitors on the show floor. Heat Treat 2013 was held in Indianapolis at the downtown convention center September 16-18. The event attracted over 2000 people from the heat treating community, marking a 16% attendance increase from 2011 and 28% increase from 2009.
A highlight of Heat Treat 2013 was the special show programming of the Heat Treating "Master Series" sessions that focused on heat-treating pioneers whose research transformed heat treating technology. Attendees were treated to lectures by current experts in the heat treating field on the contributions and impact of past heat treating "giants" Walter Jominy, Marcus Grossmann, and Edwin Northrup on heat treating technology. The remainder of the 2013 technical program focused on the latest developments in heat treating processes: atmospheres, brazing, induction heating, nitriding and carburizing, quenching and cooling, and vacuum technologies. In between sessions and networking breaks, the busy show floor attracted scores of conference attendees. Attendees were able to meet with a record number of new exhibitors, see bigger booths for returning exhibitors and preview more equipment than ever throughout the open exhibit hours and receptions.
"The solid technical program is always outstanding but this year, it raised the bar with the "Master Series" sessions. Each session was packed with attendees and provided valuable takeaways for all," said Rick Sisson, Director of Manufacturing and Materials Engineering, WPI . "The papers presented addressed very important issues to the heat treating industry, focusing on hardenability, quality and heat treat simulations. As the former president of the ASM Heat Treating Society I tuly believe this conference is important for everyone in the industry."
"We are a first-time exhibitor at Heat Treat and were able to meet four of our customers before the show actually opened. The past couple of days have offered us a chance to deepen our relationship with existing customers and showcase our products to new potential customers. Since Heat Treat is co-located with the AGMA Gear Expo, we've benefitted from a wide breadth of attendees in one central location," stated Chris Constable, Sales Manager, Rex Heat Treat. "We're excited to be a part of the buzz at Heat Treat 2013 and looking forward to joining again in Detroit in 2015."
The ASM Heat Treating Society and the American Gear Manufacturers Association once again partner to create an exciting mix of education, technology, networking and exposition opportunities in 2015. The 28th ASM Heat Treating Conference and Exposition will return the birthplace of ASM's Steel Treaters Club in Detroit, Michigan October 20-22. Interested authors should visit the event website in December for more information about abstract submissions. 2015 exhibit floor space is already over 50% sold out so if companies who want to reserve a booth space should contact Kelly Thomas, at [email protected] or 440/338-1733.
