Brewer Science, Rolla, Mo., announces the completion of its largest expansion in the Springfield area, with the company gaining additional floor space at the Missouri State University’s Roy Blunt Jordan Valley Innovation Center. The expansion adds 4600 sq. ft. of space for Brewer Science’s research and advanced manufacturing operations for a total of 12,450 sq. ft. across two floors at the facility.
The company will use this new space to develop next-generation carbon-based materials and electronics that will enable smartphones, computers, and other electronic devices to operate using less power.
Carbon-based electronics possess unique properties that can potentially reduce the power consumed by all electronics, from small portable devices to large server farms, by as much as 50 percent. The result will positively impact the environment through dramatic reductions in the space server farms would require and the significant energy efficiencies that can then be achieved. The new technologies developed and manufactured at JVIC by Brewer Science can also be used to create nanosensors, which have diverse applications including personal health monitoring. For example, these sensors may one day alert a person with asthma of an oncoming attack before it happens, much like a service light in a vehicle.
This is Brewer Science’s second expansion this year, after opening a state-of-the-art high-volume manufacturing building in Vichy, Mo.,in May.
Brewer Science has been at the JVIC facility since its opening in 2007, and this is the company’s second expansion at this location.
