Kymera to acquire Reading Alloys for its aerospace, defense, and medical materials

Kymera International, a specialty materials company headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, has entered into a definitive agreement with Ametek Inc., Berwyn, Pennsylvania, to acquire its Reading Alloys business. Kymera is a middle-market private equity firm that has been owned by affiliates of Palladium Equity Partners LLC since 2018. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2020.

Reading Alloys was founded in 1953 and acquired by Ametek in 2008. Reading designs, develops, and produces master alloys, thermal barrier coatings, and titanium powders. The business is a preferred supplier for producers of high-quality titanium and superalloy mill products for aerospace and aircraft applications. Reading also provides highly engineered materials for mission-critical applications in the aerospace, defense, medical, and industrial markets. It is known for its expertise in aluminothermic smelting, induction melting, vacuum sintering, and metal powder production.

“Reading Alloys is an outstanding company with highly skilled people and an excellent product and endmarket portfolio that we believe fits in perfectly with our existing business,” stated Barton White, CEO of Kymera International. “For Kymera, we believe this is a transformative acquisition that will give our combined company strong technical and commercial resources to help fuel our growth in the aerospace, defense, medical and industrial markets.”
