Ultra Tec’s Ultrapol Fiberlab fiber optic modular polishing system provides angular control

Ultra Tec Manufacturing Inc., Santa Ana, Calif., introduces the Ultrapol Fiberlab module system, which provides all the angular control and polishing features required for the effective processing of bare optical fibers to produce a range of end shapes, including cones, bevels, flats, chisels (screwdriver), and beveled ball tips.

A unique feature of the system is that it enables the user to select from the fiber lens type required, and to add the lensing module to the base machine with an ingenious quick-release interface. This makes setup and changeover between jobs fast and effective.

Among the other modules is the Fiberlab microscope, which works in conjunction with the polisher to provide QA and metrology with both a high magnification off-line camera, and a ‘live’ online camera to view the polishing interface during the production operation.
