Volume rendering on mobile devices

Bruker microCT (Kontich, Belgium) introduces a newly developed volume rendering application for mobile devices operating under iOS, such as iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. It is now available as a free download on the App Store.

Any 3D results obtained using SkyScan scanners can be sent to a mobile device for realistic visualization by real-time volume rendering with the possibility of 3D object manipulation, virtual cut, adjustments of object’s opacity and colors, etc. The exported reconstruction data and color schemes are stored in the local memory of the mobile device and do not require any connection or uploading during volume manipulations. A large number of reconstructed datasets can be loaded to the memory of a mobile device to share results with colleagues and for demonstration at scientific conferences/

In April 2012 Bruker acquired SkyScan to add in-depth 3D x-ray micro-CT imaging experience to its offerings in materials research. This app is one of the many results of the partnership.
