ChromX 9000 concrete rebar provides five times the corrosion resistance of carbon steel

MMFX Steel Corp., Irvine, Calif., is rebranding its MMFX2 concrete reinforcing steels to ChromX 9000 Series. This series includes ChromX 9100 (Grade 100) and ChromX 9120 (Grade 120) rebar, both sold under the ASTM A1035 specification. The ChromX 9000 products provide high strength with ductility, as well as high corrosion resistance — five times more than standard carbon steel.

ChromX 9000 outperforms epoxy-coated and galvanized rebar for corrosion protection. The product’s advantageous properties come from the steel’s chemistry and unique microstructure. Since there are no fragile coatings, ChromX 9100 and 9120 can be handled and fabricated just like conventional rebar.

As with the other high strength rebar products offered by MMFX Steel, ChromX 9000 products allow for high strength designs, reducing construction costs, increasing efficiencies and resolving rebar congestion issues. These efficiencies are well recognized by the construction industry. Building codes and design guides supporting high strength designs are available through the American Concrete Institute (ACI), International Code Council (ICC), and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).

Utilizing the high strength efficiencies and superior corrosion resistance, ChromX 9000 rebar reduces upfront construction costs, construction time, and repair and maintenance costs. This equates to millions of dollars in savings in construction and over the service life of the structure.
