Industrial coating withstands 3000 hours of salt spray

Intech Services, Newark, Del., is releasing a new DuPont Teflon industrial coating that is the first truly water-based, low VOC, and easy-to-use coating with a corrosion resistance of up to 3000 salt spray hours. DuPont has renewed its technical expertise to provide environmentally friendly coating systems that combat the most corrosive environments. Specifically engineered for coating off shore, chemical processing, and water treatment fasteners, the new coating is targeted towards applications requiring outstanding corrosion resistance, anti‐galling, and dry lubrication.

Salt spray test results performed by an outside company show excellent corrosion resistance even without surface pretreatment, though the corrosion resistance can be enhanced if used with recommended primers and substrate pretreatments. Fasteners with a zinc base coat of 0.3 mils easily passed ASTM testing of less than 10% red rust at 3000 salt spray hours. Excellent corrosion resistance can also be achieved without pretreatments on aluminum steel and stainless steel substrates.  This one-coat coat dwarfs the corrosion resistance of the current one coat technology.

These water based coatings can be applied to thicknesses of 1-4.5 mils. Curing temperatures of 450° improve the process with less bake time and energy required.

Coatings are available in colors including blue (857G-018) and red (857G-508) with yellow and black colors being added in the near future. These new corrosion coating are stocked at Intech Services and available for next day shipment.
