Precision Coating offers carbide coatings to resist wear and abrasion

Precision Coating Co. Inc., Boston, offers several HVOF carbide coatings, including tungsten carbide/cobalt, tungsten carbide/nickel-chromium, chromium carbide/nickel-chromium,  and  tungsten carbide/cobalt/chromium. They are typically used for wear resistance to abrasion, erosion, galling, and fretting.

Most carbide coatings are applied by HVOF to achieve the most dense and most well-bonded coatings available by thermal spray. Plasma sprayed carbide coatings may be selected to achieve a higher texture “as sprayed”. Some applications need flame-spray coatings and a secondary fusing operation to provide a metallurgically bonded coating.

The company recently announced that it has acquired Boyd Coatings Research Co. Inc., Hudson, Mass., to provide extensive and complementary fluoropolymer (Teflon/PTFE) application services to the medical device and highly engineered components markets. Combining the companies creates a platform to deliver quality, service, and coating application capabilities to meet the increasingly demanding requirements of the global medical device market.
