Semiconductor Analytical Services Inc., Milpitas, Calif., has opened a new analytical laboratory to support process development and production of microelectronic devices and other high-technology products. Services include chemical analysis, detection and analysis of micro-contamination, thin film characterization, failure analysis, and quality control. Process trouble shooting and R&D services are also offered.
The new laboratory is equipped with best-in-class laboratory equipment for analyzing semiconductor, magnetic disk, optical, photovoltaic, and other technology products to determine product quality and to detect and quantify contamination present in liquid, gas, and solid samples. Problem-solving expertise is provided by the lab’s R&D department, where product samples and test data are evaluated to determine the root cause of contamination and other process problems that contribute to yield loss. The department is assisted by a network of Ph.D. chemists and physicists at leading universities who can be called upon to help solve the most challenging problems.
Typical assignments over the past 30 years have been to identify and eliminate the source of contamination in a CVD reactor, to achieve uniformity and repeatability in a chemical purification process, and to investigate and recommend modifications to a dry etch process to achieve an anisotropic etch.
The new laboratory and its technical resources assure that SAS will continue to provide high quality, low-cost analytical services that help to accelerate and support process development and quality control programs in electronics industries.
