Atlas Copco Group, Sweden, through its wholly owned U.S. entity, Edwards Vacuum LLC, Hillsboro, Ore., has reached an agreement to acquire the cryogenic business of Brooks Automation Inc., Chelmsford, Mass. The acquisition, with the CTI-Cryogenics and Polycold brands, will significantly expand Atlas Copco’s technology offering with a new range of high vacuum pumps that optimize the removal of water vapour and hydrogen, critical to many semiconductor and industrial processes.
Expected to occur in the first quarter of 2019, the acquisition includes cryopump operations in Chelmsford, Mass., and Monterrey, Mexico, its worldwide network of sales and service centers, as well as its 50% shareholding in Japan-based joint venture company Ulvac Cryogenics Inc.
The acquisition is an all-cash transaction utilizing Atlas Copco’s existing funds and is subject to regulatory approvals. The acquired business will become part of the Semiconductor and Semiconductor Service divisions within Atlas Copco’s Vacuum Technique business area.
